Dr. Carol Queen is an award-winning author, activist, and sex educator with a PhD in sexology. She has been an integral part of Good Vibrations’ growth and rise to its standing as the premier retailer of sex toys and trusted source of friendly, accurate sex information.
Dr. Queen has been with Good Vibrations since 1990, and currently serves as Good Vibrations Staff Sexologist and Historian, and is also the curator of our renowned Antique Vibrator Museum, where she gives monthly docent tours (currently on hold due to Covid-19 restrictions). She originally founded Good Vibrations’ education program, where each employee receives in-depth training on anatomy, sexuality, and products. Queen engages customers with her inviting demeanor and humor, and provides expert information in a uniquely unassuming and welcoming way.
Dr. Queen has traveled the world sharing her expertise in a multitude of ways: leading workshops, participating in socially relevant (and often fun) sex-positive events, and serving as a conference keynote speaker or panelist. She has addressed such professional and scholarly gatherings as the International Condom Conference, International Conference on Prostitution, International Conference on Pornography and the Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality. She often lectures at colleges and universities, and was honored with an invitation to debate the question of Promiscuity (Virtue or Vice?) at England’s Oxford Union.

Drawing on over 40 years of diverse and informative customer interactions, and her extensive academic training and community experience, Dr. Queen was the lead author of The Sex & Pleasure Book: Good Vibrations Guide to Great Sex for Everyone. This book has become an empowering resource for people of many identities and experience levels, and covers sexual changes that occur throughout the lifespan.
June 21, 2001 was declared Dr. Carol Queen Day in San Francisco by then-Mayor Willie Brown, as part of her role as Grand Marshal of the San Francisco Pride Parade.
In 2009 Queen received saintly status from the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. Her official saint name: “Saint Carol, Queen of Orgasmic Pleasures (and Patron Saint of Positive Perversion).
Honored for her body of work and her immeasurable contributions to sexual wellness and awareness, Queen received the inaugural AVN “O” Award for Outstanding Achievement in 2009.
