It’s time to harness your power!

Harnesses and dildos are the PB & J of the sex toy world! They perfectly complement one another in adding hands-free ways to penetrate partners regardless of gender or orientation. But with so many options to choose from and most of the components sold separately, it can be a little intimidating to know which might be the best for you. Well, not anymore!

Here's some tips to help you as you pick out your future setup!

Harness Material:

Harnesses can be made from leather, rubber, or fabric materials. You can even learn to make a quick rope harness with the help of a simple bondage book! Leather used to be the go-to material for strap-on harnesses because this material is long-lasting and can mold to your body shape nicely after regular use. If you're already a fan of leather, you'll likely not be phased by the extra steps needed to keep your leather in good shape such as keeping it dry, cleaning it well after each use, and conditioning to keep the leather soft and broken in. If you're looking for something similar in design and less high maintenance, you might enjoy the rubber variety. If you want something made well and machine washable, you're looking at a fabric option. Think about how you plan to use it, and if you plan to use it with more than one person as you consider which material and cleaning process is more your speed.

Harness Fit:

Some of the harnesses come in fitted sizes, whereas others have adjustable straps for finding your specific fit (and maybe fitting others as well!). The cut of the harness may be more of an underwear/brief style, while others more of a jock strap style. You an even get harnesses that read more femme, if that’s your style. Some of the notable differences are how they highlight your own body, and if they leave your own genitals accessible. You also want to make sure that the dildo you're interested in using is compatible size-wise with the harness you're selecting. If the harness has a pre-cut hole in the leather to place the dildo through, the harness cannot use a dildo larger than the hole. If the harness has a flat panel of leather/rubber/fabric behind the base of the dildo, the dildo can go as large as the ring that holds it in place can accommodate.

Dildo Size:

When choosing your dildo to be used in a harness, you want to make sure that it has a flat base to hold it in place or comes with another method of attachment to its harness. Glass and metal dildos are not recommended for harness use—a mis-angled stroke could really hurt with such materials. All of our harnessable dildos are made of silicone. Some will have a softer feel, and some are designed to feel quite firm. If you have a dildo with a ring system, you can always purchase additional larger or smaller rings to make sure your harness can accommodate your preferred dildo size. If your dildo has balls, you may find that it fits your harness differently than if it had a flat base so consider how your setup will go together as you shop.

Add More Stimulation:

If you’re looking to add additional stimulation for the harness wearer (though many find that they receive quite a bit of sensation from wearing their harness) you can get a dildo with vibration or a textured pad on the base to add more feels. Many harnesses include pockets that hold a bullet vibe so you can position the extra pleasure for yourself or to add to your partner’s experience (or, depending on the positions you choose, both!). Double dildos exist that can easily be worn with many harnesses, or the wearer can insert Kegel balls or a We-Vibe and get more stimulation that way. How can you have too much pleasure?

Harnesses Can be Fun for Everyone:

As stated before, strap-ons have no gender identity. Lots of Cis men enjoy wearing them for double penetration options or simply to penetrate beyond their own erection capacity. Many Trans men find their harness and dildo to serve most as a prosthetic device vs a sex toy, though others might find it more for pleasure than gender congruency. Harnesses and dildos can be worn by Trans & Cis women alike, and of course our nonbinary and agender friends too, because using a strap-on doesn’t have to be associated to any particular identity or body type. In fact, if you don’t like the idea of seeing something phallic between your legs you can always try a thigh strap! Perfect for those looking for less pelvic thrusting or pressure around their hips, or for partners who would find it easier to straddle a leg than a pelvis.

So, whether you’re playing with pegging, exploring or affirming gender, or just want your hands free for even more pleasure and fun, harnesses let you engage with your toy and your partner in new and wonderful ways! Strap one on and explore!
