San Francisco, CA -- (June 7, 2010): Good Vibrations (goodvibes.com), legendary San Francisco-based company that takes pride in providing accurate information on sexuality and toys for grown-ups, is thrilled to kick off Gay Pride weekend with famed artists and sex-positive activists Annie Sprinkle and Beth Stephens in their show “Sybaritic Cougars With Ecosexual Tendencies.”  The Good Vibrations Polk Street store gallery will boast the first retrospective of the “Love Art Lab,” their collection of multi-media art works spanning the past thirty years.  The public is welcome to enjoy refreshments and meet the artists at the Polk Street Gallery, in back of the Good Vibrations store at 1620 Polk St. in San Francisco, on Thursday, June 24th, 2010, from 6 to 8 pm.

Acclaimed performance artist and sex educator Annie Sprinkle and her life partner, interdisciplinary artist and activist Elizabeth Stephens, invite viewers on a joyous and inspiring journey as they share their multiple “artgasms” in the perfect setting: sex-positive retail space Good Vibrations.   Pieces include 101 Uses for Sex, the Bronzed Panty Collection, Hairotica, R. Muff, Anatomy of a Pin-Up, and the Breast Cancer Ballet. This collection spans three decades of exploration and sex positive feminist activism.  Today their work is mapping a new field of research they coined, “Sexecology,” which they define as the intersection of ecology and sexology. They have taken the Earth as their lover.

The Love Art Laboratory project grew out of Stephens and Sprinkle’s response to the violence of war, the anti-gay marriage movement, and what they see as a prevailing culture of greed and ignorance that is causing the destruction of the planet.  Annie and Beth respond to this devastation with creativity and by trying to make the environmental movement a little more sexy and fun.  Sprinkle and Stephens explain, “Love Art Laboratory projects aim to instill hope, counter fear, and be a call for action to better love and care for the Earth…erotically.  We are delighted to partner with Good Vibrations, and celebrate the coupling of art and orgasms in this poetic venue.”

Elizabeth Stephens is interdisciplinary artist and activist who has explored themes of sexuality, gender, and feministic politics through art and performance for over 20 years. She is a professor of Art at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Performance Studies at University of California, Davis.

Annie Sprinkle was a prostitute and porn star for twenty years, then became an internationally acclaimed performance artist and sex educator with a Ph.D. in human sexuality. She has authored six books, and produced and starred in her own brand of feminist “post porn” films. Much of her work was inspired by her experiences with psychoactive substances, shamanic journeys, tantra and ecstasy breathing.

"The social and artistic importance of Annie and Beth’s work cannot be overstated,” says Good Vibrations staff sexologist Carol Queen, Ph.D. "We can’t think of a better way to celebrate San Francisco Gay Pride or sex positivity than with these mavens of sex magic!  It’s truly an honor to present their legendary body of work in our gallery, and we anticipate a phenomenal turnout of sex-positive art lovers!"

The fun doesn’t end there.  Good Vibrations staff will be present at the Trans March on Friday, June 25th, will have a booth at the famed Dyke Rally in Dolores Park, and will host its annual Pink Pleasure Party at the Good Vibrations Valencia Street location, on Saturday, June 26th from 8-10 pm.  Good Vibrations is proud to be the destination before, during, and after the one of the biggest dyke marches in the world.  Step into the Pink Pleasure Party and enjoy discounts, DJ sounds, delectable treats and free prizes.  So drop in, dyke out, and get in gear for a proud and sexy weekend!
