Good Vibrations President Wins Progressive Leadership Award at the 2014 XBIZ Awards

Joel Kaminsky Honored for Excellence in Business Leadership

SAN FRANCISCO (January 24th, 2014): Good Vibrations President Joel Kaminsky was awarded the XBIZ Progressive Leadership Award, which honors exceptional career achievement, influence and the willingness to take risks. The 2014 annual XBIZ 360 conference brings together leaders of the adult industry to explore business strategy, merchandising, marketing, best practices and more. As a business veteran for 38 years, Kaminsky was delighted to be honored in this chapter of his career as President of Good Vibrations.

Coyote Days, Good Vibrations Purchasing Manager, gladly presented the award, and shared her experience of working with him. Having been with the company for ten years, since it was a cooperative, Days had seen her share of changes. She remembered her apprehension when she met Kaminsky in 2007. He did not fit the Good Vibrations mold, hailing from the Cleveland adult establishment and possessing unusual business savvy. But Kaminsky's commitment to Good Vibrations' core values of sex positivity, quality products and education was undeniable, and he won her over and steered the foundering company toward unprecedented stability and growth.

Founded in 1977 by a couples' therapist who wanted to help pre-orgasmic women, Good Vibrations has long insisted that pleasure is everyone's birthright and that adults should have access to quality products and sex education. For most of its existence Good Vibrations operated as the philosophically-driven little engine that could, operating largely independently of the mainstream adult world. But when poor business habits almost shuttered the business, Kaminsky stepped in and bridged two worlds.

Kaminsky had a history of success in the adult business and took a risk on Good Vibrations because he was inspired by its mission, history, and potential. Instead of immediately asserting himself with reorganization and top-down management, he worked with the existing team to determine where its strengths lay and how the people whose commitment to sexual health and wellness could best serve the company's mission. Their passion, paired with Kaminsky's business acumen and long-range vision, gave birth to a new era for Good Vibrations: one in which the company could thrive, even in a faltering economy.

Good Vibrations opened its eighth store in December, located in San Francisco's sophisticated financial district, and continues to do robust business online. The original vision of a clean, well-lighted store for sex toys for women and couples has been fulfilled in ways once thought unimaginable, moving into mainstream and upscale communities and making sex-positivity accessible to a wider audience. Kaminsky's unique combination of passion, commitment, and talent for bringing out the best in his staff has allowed him to grow the company and the brand, and affect positive transformation for countless adults. He attributed the win to a collection of great people delivering a positive message to the world, and was proud to be a part of it.
