Good Vibrations Announces Women Like Me
Education Campaign on Women’s Sexual Health and Wellness

SAN FRANCISCO – (June 14, 2007): Good Vibrations, the legendary Bay Area company that takes pride in providing educational materials and accurate information on sexuality and toys for grown-ups, has announced a new public education campaign entitled Women Like Me addressing issues and concerns related to women’s sexuality and sexual expression throughout a lifetime.
“During our 30th anniversary year Good Vibes continues our tradition of bringing valuable resources, accurate information and excellent products and services,” said Theresa Sparks, Good Vibrations president and CEO, in announcing the new campaign. “Women Like Me is the latest in a 30 year journey of sexual exploration and freedom that we see not only as our mission, but our responsibility.”
The Women Like Me campaign was announced at a special June 13 performance of the wildly popular “Menopause The Musical®” at San Francisco’s Pier39 Theatre benefiting one of Good Vibrations long-time partners -- Lyon-Martin Health Services.
The Women Like Me campaign is being developed in collaboration with women’s health organizations, health care providers and community groups. The program continues a long-standing leadership role Good Vibrations has played as a trailblazer in teaching sexual freedom, education and enlightenment and discussing sex in a non-clinical environment.
“What better way to announce this initiative than at a performance celebrating Women Like Me and all of us,” said Carol Queen, Good Vibrations staff sexologist. “Good Vibrations is so proud to support the vital work of Lyon-Martin, and give back to an organization that continues to give so much to the community.”
Women Like Me Program Elements:
Included in the new Women Like Me program are educational resources in a variety of formats, recommended products and special events involving a broad spectrum of women representing all of the diversity that is Womankind.
“New media technologies will play a key role in the delivery of Women Like Me services,” said Dr. Betty Sullivan, Good Vibrations director of special projects and content. “Included will be a new web site with resource articles and features such as ‘Ask the Doc,’ an interactive column that allows participants to submit questions and receive a sexologist’s or medical adviser’s response.”
Also planned are webcast programming available live in conjunction with the UCSF National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health; and GVTV video shorts to include interviews with experts in women’s health, entertainment personalities and commentary from participants in the San Francisco Bay and Greater Boston areas and locations throughout the US and internationally.
Topics to be addressed represent a range of concerns, starting with “The Change” or menopause, followed by body image, breast health, suddenly single, and sexuality at midlife and beyond. Also considered will be chronic discomfort, overcoming anxiety, revitalizing intimacy, bisexuality, single moms/working moms, breaking sexual myths, survivors of domestic violence/abuse, lover with erectile dysfunction, polyamory, maintaining long-term relationships, dealing with physical disability, safer sex and sexually transmitted infections, dealing with a history of childhood sexual abuse, coming out / queer issues and others.
Women Like Me Partnering Organizations & Advisers:
“Women Like Me stands to become a landmark program. I am delighted to be involved and to lend my voice to this initiative,” said Dr. Dawn S. Harbatkin, MD, medical / executive director, Lyon-Martin Health Services and one of the advisers helping to launch Women Like Me. “I am going to encourage all of my patients to make use of the informative articles and resource lists, as well as the interactive workshops and discussion groups offered. As this innovative program unfolds, I look forward to seeing the difference it will make in their lives.”
